Ayou is the result of artisanal work and, above all, the story of a creative breakthrough.
In 2017, having worked with polished concrete for almost 10 years, I wanted this material to be considered as a noble material and had the idea of creating a work of art from concrete. I imagined a round shape, a bit like a cuddly toy that would bring calm and softness despite the hardness of concrete. I remembered that as a child, I had a teddy bear that was my "Buddha". I also wanted to pay tribute to my lineage, particularly to my maternal grandfather who was a tailor for Moroccan royalty. Like him, I would create a fine line all around the work, like the seams of a garment.
Through this project, I also wanted to help a friend, an artist blocked in her creativity, to reveal her artistic talent. I had known Sylvanie for a long time. I had always believed in her and wanted her art to be reborn through this artistic project.
From a sketch, I precisely described to her what I wanted and she, who had long struggled to create and draw, helped me perfect my idea of the work, this imaginary animal with a round belly, big ears, and a tail full of undulations.
Ayou was born, as was Sylvanie in her art. Since then, she has continued to draw and now sells her creations.
Unique in its texture and tail composed of different artisanal materials, Ayou has found its place in interiors where it brings serenity and strength.
