Galerie Renaissance is pleased to present Give Us Back the Beauty*, a solo exhibition by Swiss artist Bernard Garo, whose work spans painting, photography, and film. The exhibition explores the transformation of glaciers and the fragile balance between humanity and nature through a poetic dialogue of material, memory, and light.
Over the past three decades, Garo has developed a multidisciplinary language that bridges art and environmental consciousness. Using natural pigments, sediments, volcanic sands, and even glacier water, his paintings and works on paper evoke geological processes and the passage of time. Alongside these, his large-format photographs — composed in the high-altitude silence of melting glaciers — confront viewers with both the sublimity and vulnerability of the natural world.
Give Us Back the Beauty* brings together several series that map the evolution of ice: from early serenity to dislocation, from measured cartographies to fractured surfaces. The exhibition invites reflection not on loss alone, but on transformation — revealing the persistent capacity of nature to regenerate and of art to bear witness.
The exhibition coincides with international recognition of the artist’s film Torrential Lava (2025), selected for the Jury Prize at the International Glacier Film Festival in Geneva this December and sto be screened at the Earth Film Festival in Brazil. Garo’s photographs will also this season in Bernex and at the Chamonix Photo Festival, reinforcing his role as a leading voice in contemporary environmental art.
Bernard Garo’s works are held in public and private collections and have been exhibited internationally, including at the National Art Museum of China (Beijing), the Muséum d’Histoire Naturelle de Genève, and the Musée d’Art Arlaud (Lausanne). He is the recipient of the Artivist Lion de Venise (2022) and numerous international film and art prizes.
