AN IMAGINED WORLD — MARY SHALIZI
16 September – 16 October 2026
Galerie Renaissance is pleased to present An Imagined World, a solo exhibition dedicated to the work of Mary Shalizi.
Shalizi’s works invite us into a world governed by its own visual language — a universe of vivid colour, intricate patterns, recurring symbols and unexpected encounters. Figures, animals, architectural structures and fantastical forms coexist within densely imagined compositions, creating scenes that appear at once intimate and mysterious.
Working instinctively, Shalizi builds her compositions through colour, line, repetition and pattern. Her imagery unfolds somewhere between memory, imagination and inner experience, without imposing a single narrative or interpretation. Characters emerge, symbols recur and relationships form, yet their stories are never entirely revealed.
This openness lies at the heart of Shalizi’s work. Rather than explaining the worlds she creates, the artist leaves space for the viewer to encounter them independently — to recognise, question and imagine.
Bringing together a selection of works on paper, An Imagined World offers an encounter with an intensely personal body of work and the distinctive visual language Shalizi has developed over many years.
